The State Legislative Leaders Foundation (SLLF) has been awarded a grant from the Ford Foundation for its Beacons of Democracy Project, a study of the effectiveness of state legislatures. This research will ultimately examine each state legislature to determine how well it is equipped to handle the challenges of today in 4 major categories:
- Balancing the Executive Branch
- Crafting Legislation
- Representation and Accessibility
- Resources, Tools and Technology
The grant money received will go towards the first phase of the project, determining a rubric in which to evaluate each legislature. SLLF is partnering with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and has drafted a diverse team of 25 legislative experts- former legislative leaders and academics- spanning all parties, races, gender and geography to create this guiding framework.
