Our nation’s state legislative leaders occupy a truly unexampled position in the American political system. In addition to their primary responsibility as lawmakers, they must be capable managers, articulate spokespersons for their political party, chamber, and the legislature as a whole, effective mediators of dispute and architects of compromise, and tireless fundraisers and campaigners for their political party, as well as themselves.

In recognition of the multi-faceted and often unique responsibilities of legislative leaders, each year SLLF hosts two educational leadership programs in partnership with many of America’s leading universities.

In the arena of state legislative organizations, SLLF stands out as a beacon of nonpartisanship, excellence and learning for all state legislative leaders.
