Program Participants at Closing Ceremony

The State Legislative Leaders Foundation and the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs were pleased to convene the First Sino-US Provincial Legislative Leaders Forum in Beijing, China, from November 10 - 15, 2009. 

All participants stayed at Beijing’s magnificent Lake View Hotel situated in the heart of the city, adjacent to Peking University where many of our discussions took place. This was an historic program, bringing together US state legislative leaders and business leaders from across America with high-ranking Chinese business and political leaders to discuss issues of mutual interest and expand opportunities for trade and investment.

While in China, participants engaged in a series of round-table discussions designed to acquaint them with the key social, political and economic issues that define China and the USA in the 21st Century. In addition to the program discussions, participants enjoyed unmatched Chinese hospitality, visited several notable landmarks, and learned, first hand, about the culture and diversity of this extraordinary nation.

Above all else, the Sino-US Forum served as a catalyst for the development of new and lasting ties of friendship between our nations. The SLLF's long experience conducting domestic and international educational programs has repeatedly demonstrated that one of the greatest outcomes of these programs is the recognition of the common bonds that exist between peoples of different cultures and backgrounds.

More than two years have been invested in planning this Sino-US program. What we began here promises to yield increasing benefits for our respective peoples making us better citizens of the world and more effective leaders.
