Letter from the Director

August 2009

Dear members and friends of the Transatlantic Leadership Academy (TLA):

Earlier this summer, our annual Transatlantic Leadership Forum took place in Switzerland and was again a major success. It is already the 11th program of this kind held here in Europe by TLA/SLLF Europe. Please let me use this opportunity to thank wholeheartedly our Swiss host and friend The Hon. Ferdinand Riederer. Without our “partners in crime” in Sankt Gallen, Bad Ragaz, and Vaduz, this program would not have been as successful.

In addition to this major program, we also preside over our annual board meeting and a number of smaller projects, with TLA/SLLF Europe acting as the main organizer and with the assistance and support of a variety of partners.

All in all, the results of SLLF’s activities here in Europe for the last ten years have been impressive, and we are very proud of it.

Like any relations, transatlantic relations are subject to up- and downturns with different moods and strong emotions. In times of crisis, therefore, it is especially important to offer a platform for dialogue.

Mutual understanding and trust are key for successful cooperation – this is true for legislative leaders as well as the business community.

Full of resilience and optimism, we look to the years ahead, and we invite you all to participate actively in our onward journey. Our European office is here for you, for any questions or concerns you may have. Do not hesitate to contact me.
