2006 NSC Annual Meeting

Birmingham, Alabama

September 13 - 17, 2006
Hosted by Speaker Seth Hammett

Speaker Seth Hammett and his colleagues and staff in Alabama put on a great Speakers Conference with a fine mix of substantive presentations on technology, energy, and economic growth along with events showcasing the culture, history, and cuisine of the great state of Alabama.

One of the most valuable aspects of the Speakers Conference was the Speakers Only session wherein approximately half of our nation’s sitting Speakers had the opportunity to engage with one another in a frank and unencumbered discussion of the trials and tribulations, and rewards, of leadership.

Other highlights included:

  • A welcome and a philanthropic plea to help children, especially of parents who are “too proud to ask for help” by Randy Owen of the band Alabama
  • Two fine plenary sessions, the first by Bill Taylor, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, who discussed strategies for attracting businesses to one’s state, and the second by Gary Neil Drummond, of the Drummond Company, who presented the case for clean coal as a major component of our future energy plans.
