About the State Legislative Leaders Foundation

The State Legislative Leaders Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, independent national organization committed to providing specialized educational and enrichment programs for the leaders of our state legislatures — an elite group of approximately 350 House Speakers, Senate Presidents, Majority Leaders, Minority Leaders and Pro Tempores. SLLF communicates regularly with these men and women through attendance at our university-based educational
programs, newsletters, research, and a variety of other activities. To further ensure our focus on leadership, the Foundation’s Board of Directors is made up exclusively of currently serving legislative leaders.

The two cornerstones of all SLLF activities are its educational programs conducted in partnership with leading universities across America and its research on issues of leadership.

Our university-based programs give the Foundation an ideal, strategic venue for legislative leaders and business leaders to engage in serious discussion and debate. Classes are always highly interactive with Advisory Council members sitting side-by-side with legislative leaders and taking part in discussions led by experts from around the world. Customarily from 30 to 40 legislative leaders participate in each program along with a similar number of AC members.

Our research on issues of leadership is presented in original case studies focusing on real life experiences of state legislative leaders, and in training and education programs the Foundation regularly holds with such leading institutions as the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
