Spouses at the National Aquarium's dolphin show
Our Spouses Program began on Friday morning with a drive through Otterbein where 18th Century houses were purchased for $1.00 and restored under the “homesteading” program - a unique and interesting neighborhood. Out next stop was Federal Hill, long a look-out point for ships coming into Baltimore Harbor. On to Fort McHenry, this star-shaped fort not only played a major role in the War of 1812 but was the inspiration for our National Anthem. Our next stop was the Joseph Myerhoff Symphony Hall, home to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The Baltimore Orchestra is the only major American orchestra originally founded as a branch of government. They gave their first concert in 1916. In 1942, it was reorganized as a private institution.
Our private luncheon was served in the Library of The Garrett-Jacobs Mansion. After lunch we toured the beautiful Walters Art Museum with its fabulous collections of Faberge, Tiffany, Lalique and Asian masterpieces.
On Friday evening, all program participants enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Maryland Statehouse Rotunda in Annapolis. This was only the second time ever a reception and dinner has been held at the Capitol. And guess what? The first time was in 1996 - a dinner put on by us - SLLF!
Our Saturday morning took us to the National Aquarium in Baltimore just a walk across from the hotel to the Inner Harbor. We experienced a very special private “Behind the Scenes” tour and then attended the Dolphin Show. It was great fun – the dolphins were very animated.
Many, many thanks to all who were able to participate in this Spouses Program - great camaraderie, great times and lasting memories.
I am looking forward to the next time we all meet.
