Mardi Gras World! What a way to start a program. This venue houses all the Mardi Gras Floats and accessories. There are giant parrots, twirling ballerinas, dragons - you just can’t imagine how exciting it is. Year round people are designing, painting, carving - all the necessary steps to prepare for Mardi Gras. It really was so much fun. Our next stop was “The House on Bayou Road”- Pure Southern Style. The weather was delightful; our luncheon was served outside on the patio.
Next stop: Longue Vue House and Gardens, beloved home of Mrs. Edgar Stern, Sears-Roebuck heiress. Our docent for the private tour of this estate and its grounds was a wonderful lady named Helen, 90 years young. She was enchanting. Longue Vue is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Our Friday evening event for all program participants was held at the Elms Mansion, a private mansion in the exclusive Garden District. New Orleans cuisine complimented by traditional jazz. An elegant evening of true New Orleans hospitality.
Saturday morning we toured flood damaged and revitalized areas of the city. We also had a guided tour of one of the above ground cemeteries, St. Louis No. 3. The history was fascinating. Our last stop for the spouses program was the New Orleans Museum of Art. The collection of Femme, Femme, Femme, from the Louvre, the Museum d’Orsay and several museums throughout France was an extraordinary exhibition made to New Orleans just 2 months after Hurricane Katrina by the French Minister of Culture and Communication, Renaud donnedieu de Vabres and Henri Loyrette, President of the Louvre. They renewed their solidarity with New Orleans and their desire to assist NOMA during this very difficult time. While setting up this program, my heart was up and down at so many of the sights, but I must tell you, these residents are determined and they are very inspirational.
Thanks to all who were able to participate.
