2009 National Speakers Conference

October 21 - 25, 2009

The Spouses boarded the St. Simons Trolley on Thursday morning and had a very informative tour of beautiful St. Simons Island. Our stops included Fort Frederica, Christ Church, Hamilton Plantation and the St. Simons Lighthouse. Luncheon was served at the Heritage Center. Our final stop for the day was such a special experience – the Penley Art Gallery. Artist Steve Penley, an extraordinary talent, was there and personally signed a book for each participant.

Friday was another unique and special day. We started the morning with a tour of the Cloister Wine Cellar – quite an extensive collection. Very informative and what a learning experience! Next stop – the Cloister kitchen – it was amazing to see – very large, very organized and very, very clean. Our final treat for Friday, was a cooking demonstration by renowned chef Kevin Rathbun from Atlanta (Speaker Richardson’s favorite chef!). A wonderful luncheon followed the demonstration.

Saturday morning – more wonderful experiences – several participants (including me) boarded the Cloister Belle vintage yacht for a very relaxing tour of St. Simons. Other participants chose the Shooting School and spent time at the range shooting skeet. Both were very special experiences.

This was a Spectacular Spouses Program. I would like to give very special thanks to Gina McKinney (from Speaker Richardson’s office) for her expert planning and organizing of this entire Spouses program. It was my pleasure to work with her.

As always, being with the spouses means so much to me – great camaraderie and lasting memories. Thank you to all who were able to participate.
