2009 LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

September 17 - 20, 2009
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Our Oklahoma Spouses Program had a glorious start, viewing over 1000 species of plants in the Crystal Bridge at the Myriad Botanical Gardens. Our next stop was the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. This Museum is renowned for its collection of Western art and artifacts. It is home to a permanent collection of over 2,000 paintings and sculptures – it was a very special venue. Then we had lunch at the Trattoria il Centro – Oklahoma’s trendiest Italian kitchen. The food received 5 stars and rave reviews from all of us.

After lunch, we visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. This museum was created to honor those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever by the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The Memorial and Museum are dedicated to educating visitors about the impact of violence, informing about events surrounding the bombing and inspiring hope and healing through lessons learned by those affected. We had a private guided tour of the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial and a very special moment – a native Oklahoman who is a national media photographer spoke with us of the bombing and his perspective of the moment that changed so many. Needless to say, the whole visit was very inspirational and very emotional.

On Friday evening, we enjoyed dinner in the beautiful Oklahoma State House Rotunda. The Oklahoma City University choir sang for us and they were fabulous.

Saturday morning we headed to the Blue Sage Studios for a glass blowing demonstration – it was fascinating – none of us ever realized the time it takes to make just one Christmas ornament! The work was beautiful and the artists very entertaining and educational. Our last stop was the Oklahoma City Museum of Art – home of the Midwest’s premiere repertoire cinema.

As always, the Spouses Program is very special to me. It was so nice to be with old friends and have new friends join us. It was my pleasure to spend time with each and every one of you. Thank you.
