Spouses Program Participants on "Rocky" steps

Our Spouses Program began on Friday with a run (or walk) up the famous Rocky steps (78 steps I believe) and then on to a city tour of some of Philadelphia's top attractions - Philadelphia's National Historic Park, Society Hill and Old City.  After this very informative tour we enjoyed a lovely luncheon aboard the Moshulu, located on the Delaware River in Penn's Landing Marina. This luncheon was so relaxing - having new participants with us sharing their experiences and "veteran" spouses sharing stories of long ago programs (as far back as 16 years ago) – such a pleasant hour.

About to enjoy a philly cheese steak at Geno's

After lunch, we saw such sites as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Congress Hall and the Betsy Ross House and we enjoyed a very historic stop at Benjamin Franklin's print shop to have a Philadelphia souvenir postcard stamped with the original stamp of the United States and mailed on site. Finally, it wouldn't have been a complete day without a "philly cheese steak" tasting so off we went to Geno's. The cheese steak was all that it is advertised to be – outrageously delicious. Our reception and dinner for all program participants was held on the 43rd floor of the Comcast Building. The night was clear and the views were forever.

The Liberty Bell

Our Spouses Program concluded on Saturday morning with an outdoor tour (via trolley) of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.  This program was started in 1984 as a component of the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network, a city-wide initiative to eradicate destructive graffiti. It was one of the best tours I have ever taken – what a worthwhile cause. Our final stop, and what a beautiful stop it was, was the renowned Philadelphia Flower Show at the Convention Center.

As always, it was my pleasure to spend time with each and every one of you. Many thanks for your participation and I am looking forward to the next time we are together.
