Newport, Rhode Island
September 17 - 21, 2008
Our Spouses Program began on Thursday, September 18th with tours of two of the famous Newport Mansions - The Breakers and The Marble House. To say the least, they are unique, majestic and fascinating. Our luncheon was served at the Chanler Hotel overlooking beautiful Narragansett Bay and the weather couldn’t have been any better, a typical New England fall day. The evening brought all program participants to the Rosecliff Mansion for a most elegant dining experience. Dinner was prepared and served by the famous Johnson and Wales College of Culinary Arts - it was a very special special event.
Friday was another spectacular day. We spent the morning at the Sakonnet Vineyards & Winery, luncheon at La Forge Casino Restaurant and finished up with a very interesting tour of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum.
Our evening event took us to the beautiful Rhode Island State House located in Providence. At 7:30 pm all participants walked down the hill to the water front and watched the famous WaterFire from a lovely venue on the rivers edge. This moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance is made up of 100 sparkling bonfires, the fragrance of aromatic wood smoke is almost literally breathtaking.
Saturday morning and another unique and wonderful experience: the Cliff Walk! This is a 2.5 mile leisurely scenic walk overlooking the New England shoreline. The view is beyond compare.
What a wonderful Spouses Program. I would like to give special thanks to Stacey Murphy, Lynn DiPetrillo and Marisa White for their special care and consideration in planning this entire program. It was pure pleasure working with them.
As always, being with the spouses means so much to me – great camaraderie and lasting memories. Thank you to all who were able to participate.
